Movie muse: Rock Star

Rock Star is one of my biggest guilty pleasures and favourite films. I've watched it so many times it's a little embarassing...
 It has got to be Jennifer Aniston's best role for fashion - she looks amazing. Probably very mis-cast for the movie, she does in some way look a little out of place. But I think the fact that she didn't have the big permed, 80s hair metal look like everyone else was a bit part of her character in the film. The whole film is full of some great 80s groupie fashion, my favourite being Emily's glitter eyes and fishnet dress look in the club scene.

The soundtrack is also brilliant, loads of Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Rainbow, ACDC etc. 'Rock Rock Till You Drop' was the soundtrack to my summer holiday in Zante a few years ago, takes me back to lying in the sun on the beach. Def Leppard are playing Download this year, I can't wait. Even though they're one of those bands I love but only know a handful of songs of, the ones you know are tooo good. Even the mega cheesy ones, 'When Love and Hate Collide' takes me back to feeling lovesick in college, haha! Looking forward to another festival evening of glitter, leather and dancing fun with Froucy, Motley '10 part II...

Anyway, here's some visual Rock Star enjoyment for you. Long live Rock and Roll <3

Beauty haul

This seems to be turning into a beauty blog at the moment since my quest to get decent skin and natural make up began!

I had my hair done this weekend and went a bit blonder as usual, but I also splashed some (naughty) cash on the Bobbi Brown products I wanted. And I'm really impressed.

 I was initially attracted to BB by the fact that all of the foundations are yellow based. Yellow foundations look best on my skin but I haven't been able to find a good one anywhere else. I bought shade 2.5 Golden Sand in Skin Foundation. It is water based and really light - looks like skin which is exactly what it is meant to do. You can't really tell by the photo but it is really yellow based. I also bought the Golden Light bronzing powder because I didn't want to ruin the quality foundation with a cheap bronzer. Finally I bought the Blonde brow mascara and a liquid concealer from Mac - where I also got a couple of free lessons on brows and concealer colours!

A week ago I also bought a new skin care set from Dr Nick Lowe. It was on offer in Boots for 3 for 2 so I felt like I got a good bargain despite the fact I've never paid this much for skin care before. I have pretty oily skin so I bought the sebum/oil control toner and day cream and also a dark circle corrector for eyes. I have only been using them for a week but I already think I'm seeing results.

So I have had some serious buyers remorse this weekend because I never spend a lot of money on make up and before now I didn't do anything with my skin. But I have spent ages today putting loads of things on eBay to try and make some of the money back and also to clear out my wardrobe which is getting so full it is ridiculous. I literally have nowhere to keep everything. So there are a lot of old Primark things on there from my poor old uni days but there are also some nicer bits and pieces, so go bid if you fancy - My eBay. Ps - please ignore the princess name, I set this account up years ago where, as the youngest sibling, I had the nickname Princess Elle...

If I was a man or batted for the other side I would go for girls like this (obviously I'm neither a man or gay, but I can appreciate a good looking woman!). Something so pretty about a chick in masculine outfits, much sexier than pushed up boobs and slutty outfits any day. Of course it does help if you look like this to start with..

Elin Kling's blog is one of my daily reads, check it out here.

Silver dream

My heart actually fluttered when I saw these. The silver ones belong in my wardrobe (which I am doing a ridiculously massive clear-out of this weekend, I don't just mean the 20 or so things I have to put on eBay but also a re-rail and paint - so I think after that I could justify a new addition) My obsession with metallics obviously isn't going anywhere...

wish list

Loving this Zara dress, and the Topshop platforms. If I wasn't skint I would have this whole outfit. Although the dress is 100% cotton so I don't know how it would look in real life but it sure looks pretty on the website. I've also fallen for a sequin jacket on the Rokit website, at £80 it's not really a priority buy but it hasn't been bought off the site in quite a while so hopefully it will last until I feel I can part with the money...

I have always been a storm

Ohh so beautiful, I love this song.

Last words to a dumb friend...

Pet was never mourned as you,
Purrer of the spotless hue,
Plumy tail, and wistful gaze
While you humoured our queer ways,
Or outshrilled your morning call
Up the stairs and through the hall--
Foot suspended in its fall--
While, expectant, you would stand
Arched, to meet the stroking hand;
Till your way you chose to wend
Yonder, to your tragic end.

Never another pet for me!
Let your place all vacant be;
Better blankness day by day
Than companion torn away.
Better bid his memory fade,
Better blot each mark he made,
Selfishly escape distress
By contrived forgetfulness,
Than preserve his prints to make
Every morn and eve an ache.

From the chair whereon he sat
Sweep his fur, nor wince thereat;
Rake his little pathways out
Mid the bushes roundabout;
Smooth away his talons' mark
From the claw-worn pine-tree bark,
Where he climbed as dusk embrowned,
Waiting us who loitered round.

Strange it is this speechless thing,
Subject to our mastering,
Subject for his life and food
To our gift, and time, and mood;
Timid pensioner of us Powers,
His existence ruled by ours,
Should - by crossing at a breath
Into safe and shielded death,
By the merely taking hence
Of his insignificance--
Loom as largened to the sense,
Shape as part, above man's will,
Of the Imperturbable.

As a prisoner, flight debarred,
Exercising in a yard,
Still retain I, troubled, shaken,
Mean estate, by him forsaken;
And this home, which scarcely took
Impress from his little look,
By his faring to the Dim
Grows all eloquent of him.

Housemate, I can think you still
Bounding to the window-sill,
Over which I vaguely see
Your small mound beneath the tree,
Showing in the autumn shade
That you moulder where you played.

- 'Last words to a dumb friend', Thomas Hardy

Dylan was put to sleep today, with his head in my hand curled up by his favourite heater. As he was a welsh boyo St Davids Day seems somewhat appropriate. It seems silly how much you can love an animal but he was the best friend ever. Sleep tight Dyl Pyl xxx
